Jitendra Singh reviews preparations for Sansad Khel Mahotsav culmination; PM to address event on Dec 25
Dr Jitendr Singh said the December 25 event will mark the conclusion of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav, which began on August 25, 2025, and has been conceived as a pan-India initiative to promote grassroots sporting talent while advancing the Fit India Movement.
New Delhi, December 15: Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday reviewed preparations for the nationwide culmination of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav, scheduled for December 25, during a virtual coordination meeting with deputy commissioners and members of legislative assembly from the Udhampur–Kathua–Doda Lok Sabha constituency.
The meeting focused on ensuring seamless coordination across districts and assembly segments for the concluding event, which will be addressed virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The culmination will be organised simultaneously across assembly segments, with coordination led by respective MLAs and MPs, in collaboration with district administrations.
Singh said the December 25 event will mark the conclusion of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav, which began on August 25, 2025, and has been conceived as a pan-India initiative to promote grassroots sporting talent while advancing the Fit India Movement. He underlined that the programme reflects the government’s broader vision of building a fit, healthy and sports-oriented India.
The minister directed district administrations to remain prepared for multiple execution models, including district-level and constituency-level formats, depending on final guidelines. Officials were asked to identify suitable venues with assured digital connectivity and adequate infrastructure to support the prime minister’s virtual address.
Highlighting the long-term objectives of the initiative, Singh said the Sansad Khel Mahotsav is intended to create a sustainable sports ecosystem rather than remain a one-time event. He instructed officials to ensure timely uploading of details of winners at the panchayat, block, district and higher levels on designated portals, enabling identification and nurturing of promising athletes for advanced training and competitive exposure.
Singh also noted that the culmination coincides with Good Governance Day and the birth anniversary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and encouraged districts to align local programmes with these national observances to strengthen public outreach and engagement.
Officials informed the meeting that the culmination events will see participation from local youth, sportspersons, community representatives and eminent figures from the sports sector. The programmes will be organised under the MY Bharat framework, with support from the ministries of youth affairs and sports, culture and education, along with district administrations.
Concluding the meeting, Singh called on all stakeholders to ensure close coordination so that the Sansad Khel Mahotsav culmination emerges as a model national event, reflecting the government’s commitment to promoting sports culture, nurturing young talent and strengthening the Fit India Movement. He said detailed guidelines will be issued shortly and stressed that timely preparedness at all levels will be critical to the programme’s success.
