PM Modi Launches ₹5650-Crore Development Projects in Tamil Nadu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates multiple development projects worth around ₹5,650 crore in Tiruchirappalli, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, clean energy access and connectivity across Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday.

Tiruchirappalli: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects worth around ₹5,650 crore in Tiruchirappalli, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, clean energy access and connectivity across Tamil Nadu.
Addressing a public gathering in the historic city of Trichy, Modi said the projects spanning clean energy, petroleum-related manufacturing, highways, railways and rural roads will enhance energy access, improve connectivity and create employment opportunities for the youth of the state.
A major component of the initiatives is the ₹3,700-crore city gas distribution network of Bharat Petroleum, for which the foundation stone was laid. The project will supply piped natural gas to about nine lakh households and several commercial establishments in the nilgiris and erode districts. Modi said the environmental benefits of the project over eight years would be equivalent to planting around four crore trees.
The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation the Indian Oil Corporation’s lube blending plant in chennai, describing it as one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world. The plant is expected to strengthen the Make in India initiative by boosting domestic lubricant production and reducing import dependence.
Highlighting the importance of rural connectivity, Modi inaugurated 370 kilometres of rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. He said improved rural road infrastructure will enhance access to healthcare, education and markets, while strengthening the rural economy and improving ease of living.
A highway bypass project at Gangaikonda Cholapuram was also announced to divert heavy traffic away from the UNESCO-recognised Chola-era temple complex, ensuring better safety for visitors and preservation of the heritage site.
In the railway sector, the Prime Minister flagged off several new train services connecting cities including Nagercoil, Coimbatore, Rameshwaram, Tirunelveli, Mayiladuthurai and Karaikkudi, aimed at promoting tourism and facilitating trade across regions.
Modi noted that the projects complement the ongoing modernization and redevelopment of railway stations under the Amrit Bharat programme, which is improving passenger facilities and transport infrastructure across the state.
Reiterating the government’s development vision, he said the initiatives form part of the broader effort to build a developed Tamil Nadu as a foundation for a developed India.
