New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved two major infrastructure projects worth over ₹2,534 crore in Andhra Pradesh’s new capital city Amaravati, including residential accommodation and office complexes for Central Government employees.

The approvals cover the construction of the first-ever General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) project in Andhra Pradesh and a Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) complex, both to be developed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

The residential project, estimated to cost ₹1,234.91 crore, will be developed on 17 acres and comprise 1,504 dwelling units across 11 residential towers. The accommodation will include Type-II to Type-VI housing units along with parking facilities for 1,972 equivalent car spaces.

According to the government, the project aims to ease the housing burden on Central Government employees posted in Amaravati, improve employee welfare and ensure that staff members can reside closer to their workplaces, thereby enhancing administrative efficiency.

The residential campus will include civic amenities such as a bank, ATM, post office, crèche, community hall, food court, shopping complex, service centre and guest house. The project will also feature a barrier-free environment to facilitate accessibility for persons with disabilities.

In a parallel decision, the Cabinet approved the construction of the Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation complex at a cost of ₹1,299.08 crore.

Planned over 5.53 acres, the office complex will consist of two multi-storey office blocks with a total built-up area of 23.25 lakh square feet and capacity to accommodate around 8,000 government officials and staff. The project includes parking facilities for approximately 1,800 vehicles.

The office campus will house multiple Central Government departments under one roof, a move expected to improve coordination among agencies and enhance service delivery in Andhra Pradesh.

The complex will also provide support facilities including a bank, ATM, post office, crèche, recreation room, conference hall, multipurpose hall and canteens for employees and visitors.

Both projects will be designed as green buildings with a minimum GRIHA 4-Star Rating and will comply with the latest Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024. The developments will incorporate energy-efficient designs, water conservation measures, sustainable materials and environmentally responsible construction practices.

The government said the projects are expected to generate substantial employment during construction and operation. Each project is estimated to create approximately seven lakh man-days of employment annually during the construction phase and around 50,000 man-days annually during operation.

Pre-bid activities for both projects have already commenced and tender documents are currently under preparation by CPWD.

The approvals represent a significant boost to Amaravati’s development as the administrative capital of Andhra Pradesh and reinforce the Centre’s commitment to creating modern, sustainable and integrated government infrastructure in the city.
