Haridwar: The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) organised the Scientific Conclave on Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) 2026 in Haridwar on Wednesday, bringing together regulators, scientists, industry leaders, academicians and healthcare professionals to discuss the evolving role of pharmacopoeial standards in ensuring the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines.

The conclave focused on the growing importance of scientific standards in strengthening pharmaceutical quality systems and supporting India’s emergence as a global healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturing hub. Participants deliberated on emerging challenges in drug regulation, quality assurance, advanced analytical methods and international harmonisation of pharmacopoeial standards.

Experts highlighted the critical role played by the Indian Pharmacopoeia in establishing scientifically validated benchmarks for medicines marketed across the country. They noted that robust pharmacopoeial standards help ensure consistency, patient safety and public confidence in pharmaceutical products.

The discussions also examined the impact of technological advancements, evolving regulatory frameworks and the increasing complexity of modern therapeutics on pharmaceutical quality management. Delegates emphasised the need for continuous research, innovation and collaboration among regulators, academia and industry to address future healthcare challenges.

The conclave served as a platform for knowledge sharing and exchange of best practices, reinforcing India’s commitment to maintaining globally accepted quality standards in pharmaceuticals. Participants underscored the importance of strengthening scientific capacity and regulatory excellence to support the country’s expanding role in the global pharmaceutical supply chain.

The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and is responsible for setting standards for drugs manufactured, sold and consumed in India. The standards prescribed in the Indian Pharmacopoeia are widely used by regulators, manufacturers, testing laboratories and healthcare institutions to ensure the quality of medicines.
