Hyderabad: Canada has signalled its intent to significantly deepen economic and strategic engagement with Telangana, with Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Chris Cooter, inviting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to lead an official delegation to Canada during a high-level meeting held in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, urban infrastructure, clean energy and higher education, while reaffirming Telangana’s growing position as a preferred destination for Canadian businesses and institutional investors.

Focus on Infrastructure and Future City

During the discussions, both sides explored opportunities for collaboration in several flagship infrastructure projects being undertaken by the Telangana government.

These include:

  • Musi River Development Project
  • Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion
  • Future City initiative

The projects were presented as major investment opportunities for Canadian companies with expertise in sustainable urban development, smart infrastructure and clean technologies.

Canadian Investments Gain Momentum

Highlighting Canada’s expanding footprint in Telangana, High Commissioner Chris Cooter referred to several recent investments and business developments in the state.

These include:

  • Firan Technology Group’s decision to establish a manufacturing facility in Hyderabad.
  • CIBC’s launch of its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad.
  • CPP Investments’ strategic partnership with Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters, involving a commitment of up to 1 billion Canadian dollars.

The developments underscore increasing confidence among Canadian companies in Telangana’s investment ecosystem.

Telangana Showcases Strength in Emerging Industries

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted Telangana’s emergence as one of India’s fastest-growing innovation hubs.

He showcased the state’s leadership in:

  • Information Technology
  • Life Sciences
  • Defence manufacturing
  • Aerospace

The Chief Minister also underlined Hyderabad’s position as one of India’s leading destinations for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) established by Fortune 500 companies.

Green Economy and River Rejuvenation

The Chief Minister briefed the Canadian delegation on the government’s ambitious Musi River rejuvenation project, describing it as part of a broader strategy to create a new economic corridor along the riverfront.

He also sought Canadian collaboration in:

  • Solar energy expansion
  • Green economy initiatives
  • Sustainable urban development

Canadian Universities Invited to Hyderabad

As part of Telangana’s vision to become a global knowledge hub, the Chief Minister proposed that a consortium of leading Canadian universities establish a multi-university campus in Hyderabad.

He noted that several internationally renowned universities are already exploring opportunities to establish campuses in the city.

Invitation to Global Investors Summit

Revanth Reddy also invited Canadian companies, investors and academic institutions to participate in the second Telangana Global Investment Summit, scheduled to be held in December, to explore new investment opportunities and strategic partnerships.

Canada Praises Telangana’s Growth Vision

Speaking after the meeting, High Commissioner Chris Cooter commended Telangana’s forward-looking governance model and its emphasis on employment generation, innovation and economic development.

He described the state as possessing enormous growth potential backed by a highly skilled talent pool and assured Canada’s continued support for Telangana’s development initiatives.

The High Commissioner also announced that a Canadian trade delegation would visit Telangana in the coming months to explore collaboration in sectors including:

  • Energy
  • Urbanisation
  • Defence
  • Aerospace

He reiterated his invitation to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to visit Canada for advancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Senior Telangana government officials, including K. Ramakrishna Rao, Advisor and Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. Ajith Reddy, CEO of Invest Telangana, Shashanka, Managing Director of TGIIC, Anudeep Durishetty, Joint Secretary, ITE&C Department, and Nikhil Chakravarthy, Director of Industries, were also present during the meeting.
