MUMBAI: Vashi Parivaar Foundation has launched a six-month tailoring skills programme for women from Indian Army families at the Vocational Training Centre under the Colaba Army Unit.

In a statement issued on October 9, the foundation, the CSR arm of Vashi Integrated Solutions Ltd, said the programme began with 30 women trainees. Representatives of the Indian Army, the foundation and Naigaum Social Service Society, the initiative’s knowledge partner, attended the inauguration.

The training will focus on practical tailoring skills that participants can use to seek employment or establish independent income-generating activities. It aims to help women supplement household income and strengthen their financial independence.

The course will be followed by a government-recognised examination. Successful registered trainees will receive a passing certificate under the Maharashtra State Vocational Training framework, according to the foundation.

The programme has been designed to accommodate the needs of Army families, including family responsibilities and the mobility associated with military service. Tailoring skills could offer participants flexible livelihood options across locations.

Shweta Dodeja, managing director of Vashi Parivaar Foundation and CSR head at Vashi Integrated Solutions Ltd, said the initiative was an opportunity to support Army families in partnership with Naigaum Social Service Society.

The programme forms part of the foundation’s work in skill development, education, women’s empowerment and livelihood generation.
