NEW DELHI: Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is visiting Singapore from October 9 to 11 for meetings with the country’s leadership, institutional investors and business executives to advance economic cooperation and investment ties.
According to a Ministry of Finance announcement issued on Friday, Sitharaman will meet Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
Discussions will cover the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and follow up on outcomes of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable. Priority areas include trade and investment, digital financial connectivity, capital markets, taxation, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, skilling and aviation.
The ministry said Singapore was India’s largest source of foreign direct investment, with cumulative inflows of about $194.68 billion between April 2000 and March 2026. Singaporean institutional investors GIC and Temasek have investments across the Indian economy.
Sitharaman will participate in a roundtable with hedge fund and portfolio fund managers, alongside government-to-business meetings. The discussions will focus on India’s growth outlook, investment opportunities and developments in the global economy and financial markets.
Her schedule also includes individual meetings with senior executives from GIC, Temasek, DBS, Standard Chartered, British International Investment, IHH Healthcare, MUFG, B Capital, HPS Investment Partners, SEB, Mitsui & Co. and TPG.
The ministry identified the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund and GIFT City as potential avenues for greater participation by Singaporean capital through funds and investment vehicles.
It said it would work with relevant ministries and industry bodies to connect interested investors with Indian companies, financial institutions and state governments, and help take identified opportunities forward.
The visit aims to translate the countries’ political relationship into greater investment, business partnerships and economic cooperation.
