New Delhi: India’s flagship nutrition programme has undergone a major digital transformation through the Poshan Tracker, a real-time governance platform that is redefining how nutrition services are monitored and delivered across the country. Developed under POSHAN Abhiyaan and implemented through Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, the mobile-based application has emerged as the digital backbone of India’s nutrition governance system.

Launched in March 2021 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), the platform enables near real-time monitoring of Anganwadi infrastructure, beneficiary coverage, service delivery and child growth through a unified digital ecosystem.

Transforming Nutrition Governance Through Technology

Before the introduction of Poshan Tracker, Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) maintained 11 manual registers, making data collection time-consuming and delaying intervention.

The new platform digitises beneficiary registration, growth monitoring and nutrition service delivery, allowing frontline workers to capture information using smartphones while policymakers access live dashboards for evidence-based decision-making.

Smart Features for Better Service Delivery

Poshan Tracker integrates several advanced digital capabilities that improve efficiency and transparency across the nutrition ecosystem.

Among its major features are:

  • Aadhaar-based beneficiary authentication to eliminate duplicate and ghost entries.
  • Facial Recognition System (FRS) for authentic last-mile service delivery.
  • An intelligent home visit scheduler supporting 23 structured counselling visits from pregnancy through the child’s first three years.
  • A built-in Poshan Calculator based on WHO Child Growth Standards.
  • A toll-free Poshan Helpline (1515) for grievance redressal.
  • Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) content library featuring 249 educational videos, 190 voice notes and 159 learning activity PDFs based on the Aadharshila curriculum.
  • Smartphones and Growth Monitoring Devices provided to Anganwadi Workers for digital data collection.

Nationwide Digital Coverage

The platform has now achieved nationwide implementation.

As of May 2026, Poshan Tracker covers:

  • Around 5.17 crore beneficiaries received supplementary nutrition for at least 21 days.

Data-Driven Improvements in Child Nutrition

The Poshan Tracker maintains a live database covering over 7.7 crore children using Aadhaar-authenticated data, enabling real-time dashboards, heat maps and evidence-based policymaking.

The application has also enabled growth monitoring for more than 6.3 crore children aged 0–5 years, covering nearly 94% of registered beneficiaries.

The report highlights measurable improvements between May 2023 and May 2026:

  • Stunting declined from 38% to 30%
  • Underweight prevalence reduced from 18% to 12%
  • Severe and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (SAM/MAM) declined from 7% to 3%

International Recognition
