Bratislava: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Slovakia’s highest state honour, the “Order of the White Double Cross, First Class”, by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini during a special ceremony on Monday.

The prestigious award is the highest national honour of the Slovak Republic and recognises exceptional contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and international cooperation.

Accepting the honour, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to the President, the government and the people of Slovakia for the recognition.

He said the award was not a personal achievement but a tribute to the 1.4 billion people of India and the enduring friendship between India and Slovakia.

“The honour is a testament to the warmth, trust and affection that unite the people of India and Slovakia,” the Prime Minister said.

Modi also expressed confidence that the recognition would inspire future generations in both countries to further strengthen the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation.

The conferral of Slovakia’s highest state honour comes amid growing engagement between India and Slovakia across areas such as trade, technology, innovation, defence cooperation and people-to-people ties.

Officials described the award as a reflection of the strong and expanding partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations.

The honour adds to a series of international recognitions received by Prime Minister Modi from countries around the world in acknowledgement of his contributions to strengthening diplomatic partnerships and global cooperation.
