NEW DELHI: India’s flagship citizen engagement platform, MyGov, has emerged as a powerful instrument of participatory governance, with more than 6.32 crore citizens contributing to policy discussions, surveys and consultations on some of the country’s most significant reforms, including the Union Budget, National Education Policy (NEP), Digital Personal Data Protection framework and Aadhaar reforms.
The information was provided by Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on July 24, 2026.
Launched by the Government of India as a digital platform to connect citizens with governance, MyGov collaborates with ministries and government departments to gather public opinion on issues of national importance. Over the years, it has evolved into a major channel for citizen participation through discussions, polls, surveys and on-ground engagement activities.
According to data shared by the minister, the platform had registered 6,32,16,167 citizens as of July 10, 2026, with nearly 4.48 crore users joining over the last five years. During this period, MyGov hosted 180 public discussions involving more than 7.77 lakh participants, conducted 15 polls that attracted over 3.03 crore responses, and organised 56 surveys with participation from more than 3.57 lakh citizens.
Several landmark policy initiatives have benefited from public consultations hosted on the platform. These include consultations on the National Education Policy 2020, the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2022 and the Draft Digital Personal Data Protection Rules 2025, Union Budget proposals, amendments to the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance Rules, examination reforms, the Draft Data Centre Policy, the Draft New Textiles Policy and the Memorandum for the Eighth Central Pay Commission. The final decision on incorporating citizen suggestions, however, remains with the respective ministries and departments responsible for each policy or programme.
The minister said independent impact assessment studies conducted in 2017 and 2025 found that MyGov had significantly expanded the scope of citizen participation through diverse engagement models. Based on their recommendations, the platform has introduced several improvements, including support for 12 languages, a dedicated mobile application, stronger digital outreach and periodic interface upgrades to improve accessibility and user experience.
MyGov also compiles public feedback and forwards recommendations to the concerned ministries for appropriate action. The platform regularly reviews citizen feedback on its own functioning to ensure continuous improvement and strengthen the bridge between the government and the public.
