Kochi: The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), India’s apex body for promoting diverse and meaningful cinema, premiered its latest Malayalam production “Achappa’s Album” in Kochi, highlighting its continued focus on supporting regional storytelling and emerging creative voices.
The premiere, held on April 21 ahead of the film’s nationwide release on April 24, brought together filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals at a star-studded event.
NFDC Managing Director Prakash Magdum said the film reflects the organisation’s commitment to nurturing unique narratives rooted in Indian culture. He noted that the film combines an imaginative time-travel concept with emotionally resonant storytelling across generations.
Directed by Deepti Sivan Pillay and written by Sanjeev Sivan, the film features performances by Priyanka Nair, Anjana Appukuttan and Sudhanshu Sanjeev Sivan, along with a supporting cast including a child artist.
The film explores themes of memory, family and the human desire to revisit the past, aiming to connect with audiences across age groups.
The premiere was also attended by distributor Sujith Nair of Dream Big Films, who joined the cast and crew for the ceremonial screening.
NFDC, established in 1975 under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, plays a key role in supporting the Indian film ecosystem, including production, promotion and preservation of cinema across multiple languages.
Industry observers note that such initiatives are part of a broader effort to strengthen India’s regional film industries and bring culturally rooted narratives to wider audiences, both domestically and globally.
