Centre Court Pickleball League returns to Hyderabad for Season 2 on October 17 after its Phuket player auction finalised the franchise squads.
The four-day CCPL Owners’ Weekend and Season 2 Player Auction took place in Phuket from September 3 to 6, bringing franchise owners together ahead of the league’s return to its home city.
HYDERABAD: The Centre Court Pickleball League (CCPL) will return to Hyderabad for its second season on October 17, with the Season 2 squads now finalised following the league’s player auction held in Phuket.
The four-day CCPL Owners’ Weekend and Season 2 Player Auction took place in Phuket from September 3 to 6, bringing franchise owners together ahead of the league’s return to its home city. The remaining places in the squads were decided during the player auction on September 5.
The league began in Hyderabad in 2025 as the Hyderabad Pickleball League (HPL), featuring eight franchise teams. Mavericks won the inaugural title after defeating All Stars 4-3 in a seventh-set tiebreaker in the final, which attracted nearly 2,000 spectators and featured a halftime performance by Lucky Ali.
Teams shape up for Season 2
Several franchises had already made their moves before the auction. Championship-winning Mavericks retained Sreekar Mothukuri, while Sameer Varma returned to All Stars following their runners-up finish last season. Mikhil Tummalapalli and Vivek Reddy were also retained by their respective franchises.
Karunesh Reddy, Abhaya Vemuri and Gopinath Reddy joined the Season 2 line-up as pre-auction picks.
The Chargers opted for a different strategy, entering the auction without any player retention or pre-auction pick and using the event to build their full roster.
“The retentions and pre-auction picks already give you an indication of how different teams are approaching the season,” said Vikrant Rao, Co-founder, Centre Court Sports and Entertainment. He said the auction brought together the final composition of the teams.
Six weeks to prepare
The Owners’ Weekend also included a tournament for franchise owners at Coconut Pickleball Centre in Bang Tao, followed by the auction briefing, player auction, formal dinner and Season 2 predictions.
With the squads now set, the franchises have six weeks to prepare for the league’s return to Hyderabad on October 17.
Yashwanth Biyyala, Co-founder, Centre Court Sports and Entertainment, said Hyderabad remained central to the league’s journey, as it was where the franchise-based pickleball property began before expanding to Bengaluru.
