The U.S.-based leader in software supply chain security establishes its largest R&D hub in India, reinforcing Hyderabad’s position as a global technology powerhouse

Hyderabad, Nov 12: Sonatype, the Maryland-headquartered global leader in AI-driven open-source cybersecurity, has announced the opening of its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, India. Located in HITEC City, the new facility will serve as Sonatype’s largest and fastest-growing R&D hub globally, employing over 200 deep-tech engineers, product leaders, data scientists, and AI specialists focused on advancing software supply chain security and open-source innovation.

The center was inaugurated by Sanjay Kumar, Special Chief Secretary for Information Technology, Electronics, Communications & Industries, Government of Telangana, in the presence of Sai Krishna, IT Advisor to the state IT Minister, and Sonatype’s global leadership team including Bhagwat Swaroop, CEO; Mitchell Johnson, Chief Product Development Officer; Abhishek Chauhan, Head of India and Senior Director of Technology; and Megan Lueders, Chief Marketing Officer.

A major boost to Hyderabad’s GCC ecosystem

Welcoming the initiative, Sanjay Kumar said, “Hyderabad has quickly become one of the fastest-growing hubs for Global Capability Centers, where leading companies are building and managing their most critical and innovation-driven work. With its strong pool of talent, culture of innovation, and industry-friendly policies, Hyderabad continues to attract the world’s top technology firms. Sonatype’s new Global Innovation Center is another milestone in this journey. By next year, Hyderabad will reach its first milestone of 500 GCCs, creating thousands of high-value technology jobs, reinforcing the city’s position as a global hub for talent and innovation.”

Advancing secure software supply chain innovation

The Hyderabad GCC will play a pivotal role in enhancing Sonatype’s Nexus platform, driving next-generation automation, scalability, and customer experience. It will also help global enterprises comply with emerging cybersecurity frameworks such as CERT-IN guidelines, Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) mandates, and the SEBI Cyber Resilience Framework, further strengthening Sonatype’s leadership in secure software supply chain management.

With over 15 million developers and a customer base that includes 70% of Fortune 500 companies, Sonatype’s open-source innovation—rooted in its Maven Central and Nexus Repository heritage—has shaped how developers build, share, and secure software for more than two decades.
