New Delhi: Matrix Geo Solutions has secured a project to deploy Digital Twin technology for a proposed broad gauge railway corridor between Taranga Hill and Abu Road via Ambaji, in collaboration with the Ajmer Division of Indian Railways.
The project will leverage advanced geospatial technologies, including drone-based LiDAR surveys and 3D modelling, to support route planning and infrastructure design for the new rail line.
As part of the mandate, Matrix Geo will conduct aerial LiDAR surveys along the proposed alignment to generate high-precision datasets such as topographic maps, elevation models and orthophoto mosaics. These datasets will form the foundation for planning and engineering analysis.
The company will also develop a detailed 3D Digital Twin of the terrain and surrounding environment, incorporating physical features including buildings, vegetation, water bodies and utility infrastructure. In addition, a separate model of the proposed railway corridor will be created to Level of Development 200 standards, covering key elements such as bridges, tunnels, station structures and formation layouts.
Company officials said the use of Digital Twin technology will enable simulation-driven planning, allowing engineers to test and refine designs before execution, thereby reducing project risks and improving coordination across stakeholders.
The project will also include aerial simulations and flythrough visualisations to support stakeholder engagement, design validation and communication. These digital models are expected to play a role beyond construction, aiding future operations and maintenance of the corridor.
The initiative reflects the growing adoption of data-driven infrastructure planning in India’s railway sector, with geospatial intelligence and digital engineering tools increasingly being used to enhance efficiency, accuracy and lifecycle management of large-scale projects.
