New Delhi: Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday reviewed the operation of summer special trains, as Indian Railways ramps up efforts to manage peak seasonal travel demand across the country.

During a review meeting held in the national capital, the minister assessed the progress of additional train services being deployed to ease congestion and improve passenger convenience.

Railways is planning to operate 18,262 summer special train trips between April 15 and July 15, 2026. Of these, 11,878 trips have already been notified, while the remaining services are being scheduled in a phased manner.

The large-scale deployment is aimed at enhancing connectivity on high-demand routes, supported by improved rake availability, optimised scheduling, and continuous operational monitoring.

Focus on High-Density Corridors

Special attention is being given to major stations and high-traffic corridors, including:

  • New Delhi Railway Station
  • Lokmanya Tilak Terminus
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
  • Pune Junction railway station
  • Udhna railway station
  • Ahmedabad Junction railway station
  • KSR Bengaluru City Junction railway station

At these locations, measures such as real-time crowd management, enhanced on-ground support, and streamlined train operations are being implemented to ensure smooth passenger movement.

Zonal Execution, On-Ground Management

Officials highlighted the role of zonal railways in executing crowd-control strategies. At Udhna station, Western Railway has deployed real-time monitoring systems and strengthened passenger assistance mechanisms.

In Train No. 19045 Udhna–Thave Tapti Ganga Express, Railway Protection Force personnel managed boarding in a structured manner, ensuring orderly seating and minimising congestion on platforms.

Special arrangements have also been made to support passengers travelling to their hometowns during the summer season, with improved boarding systems and station-level coordination.

Proactive Planning for Peak Season

Railways said the current strategy reflects a proactive and calibrated approach to handling seasonal surges, combining infrastructure readiness with operational agility.

The ministry reiterated its focus on ensuring safe, smooth, and hassle-free journeys, with continuous monitoring and responsive interventions across the network during the peak travel period.
