BHOGAPURAM (ANDHRA PRADESH): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled development projects worth more than ₹17,900 crore in Andhra Pradesh, spanning aviation, semiconductor manufacturing, transport connectivity, clean energy and industrial infrastructure, in a major push to position the state as a technology and manufacturing hub.
After inaugurating the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated multiple projects during a public programme in Vizianagaram district, describing the investments as a significant step towards realising the vision of “Swarna Andhra” while strengthening India’s infrastructure, manufacturing and logistics ecosystem.
The Prime Minister said the projects across aviation, clean energy, semiconductors and connectivity would accelerate Andhra Pradesh’s economic transformation and create new opportunities for employment, investment and industrial growth.
Semiconductor manufacturing receives major boost
One of the key announcements was the foundation stone laying for a new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam, which the Prime Minister described as a crucial step towards developing future-ready industries and harnessing the potential of the state’s skilled workforce.
He said India is increasingly focusing on strategic technologies such as semiconductors to maximise the capabilities of its young talent and reduce dependence on imported technologies. The new semiconductor project is expected to contribute to the creation of a broader technology ecosystem, encouraging investments in electronics manufacturing, advanced engineering and innovation-driven industries.
The Prime Minister said Andhra Pradesh is well positioned to evolve from a software talent hub into a major manufacturing destination for advanced technologies, creating high-value jobs for engineers, researchers and technology professionals.
Bhogapuram airport to improve regional connectivity
The Prime Minister also highlighted the new airport at Bhogapuram, saying it would serve as a growth engine for North Andhra by improving connectivity and supporting economic development.
Announcing that the airport will be named after freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, he said the facility would become a gateway for investment, tourism, trade and employment in the region while honouring the legacy of the tribal icon.
Referring to the expansion of India’s aviation network, the Prime Minister said the number of operational airports has increased from 74 in 2014 to 166, making air travel more accessible to people from smaller towns and cities through initiatives such as the UDAN scheme.
Transport and logistics infrastructure
The Prime Minister said the Centre is implementing an integrated infrastructure strategy to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s connectivity through ports, highways, railways and airports.
He reiterated the government’s vision of developing the state’s coastline into a Coastal Economic Corridor by modernising existing ports from Visakhapatnam to Krishnapatnam while constructing new ports at Mulapeta and Ramayapatnam. These initiatives, he said, would strengthen India’s blue economy and improve maritime trade.
He also highlighted the rapid expansion of highway infrastructure, including the Visakhapatnam-Raipur Expressway, and said railway projects worth around ₹1 lakh crore are currently under implementation in the state. The projects include network electrification and the redevelopment of more than 70 railway stations.
According to the Prime Minister, these infrastructure investments, integrated under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, will improve logistics efficiency, reduce transportation costs, benefit farmers and industries, and enhance ease of doing business.
Technology and industrial ecosystem
Beyond transport infrastructure, the Prime Minister outlined the government’s broader strategy of building an ecosystem around advanced manufacturing.
He said global companies are increasingly looking at Andhra Pradesh as an investment destination, citing developments in artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centres, including Google’s proposed US$15-billion campus announcement. Such investments, he said, would create new opportunities for local youth while strengthening the state’s technology ecosystem.
The Prime Minister also referred to the proposed Pharma Park at Nakkapalli and major renewable energy investments in Rayalaseema, saying these projects would diversify the state’s industrial base and contribute to long-term economic growth.
Investment-led development
Emphasising the role of infrastructure in economic development, the Prime Minister said investments in transport, manufacturing and technology generate employment, expand exports and improve household incomes.
He noted that projects launched during his recent visits to Andhra Pradesh represent investments worth nearly ₹2 lakh crore, reflecting the Centre’s continued focus on accelerating the state’s development.
Expressing confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s future, the Prime Minister said the projects launched on Friday would strengthen the state’s emergence as a manufacturing, logistics and technology hub while contributing to the larger vision of a developed India.
