Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari anthem released to promote rainwater conservation
Sung by Shankar Mahadevan, the new anthem seeks to encourage citizens, communities and institutions to make rainwater harvesting and water conservation part of everyday life.
The newly released anthem is intended to take the water-conservation message to villages, towns, schools, institutions and households across the country.
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Jal Shakti has released the anthem for “Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari – Catch the Rain”, giving a musical voice to the nationwide campaign promoting rainwater harvesting and water conservation through public participation.
Sung by singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan, the anthem carries the message “Catch the Rain – Where It Falls, When It Falls” and calls upon citizens to conserve rainwater and make water conservation a part of everyday life.
The anthem features the lines:
“पकड़ें हम, पकड़ें हम, बारिश का पानी,
लिखें हम, लिखें हम, एक नई कहानी।”
The Ministry said the initiative is based on the premise that water conservation cannot be addressed by government alone and requires participation from citizens, families, communities, institutions, local bodies and industries.
The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative focuses on creating and rejuvenating rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge structures, with public participation placed at the centre of the programme.
The newly released anthem is intended to take the water-conservation message to villages, towns, schools, institutions and households across the country. The ministry has particularly highlighted the role of young people in spreading awareness and encouraging community participation.
According to the ministry, conserving rainwater can contribute to strengthening groundwater reserves and improving the resilience of communities facing water stress.
The initiative encourages citizens to adopt rainwater harvesting and water conservation as regular practices rather than treating them only as government programmes.
The ministry has called upon citizens to participate in the campaign and translate the message of the anthem into action by conserving rainwater “where it falls, when it falls”.
