Hyderabad: Ride-hailing major Uber has announced the expansion of its Center of Excellence in Hyderabad and expressed interest in establishing a corporate office in the proposed Bharat Future City near Hyderabad.

Uber Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the latter’s residence in Jubilee Hills on Tuesday and discussed the company’s expansion plans in Telangana.

During the meeting, Dara Khosrowshahi informed the Chief Minister that Uber’s Hyderabad Center of Excellence — the company’s first such facility outside the United States — currently employs around 600 engineers and is being further expanded.

He also conveyed Uber’s interest in setting up a corporate office in Bharat Future City, the upcoming integrated smart city project being developed near Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister assured full support from the Telangana government for Uber’s expansion initiatives in the state.

Highlighting growing urban mobility challenges, Revanth Reddy urged Uber to focus on solutions for the increasing parking crisis in major Indian cities. He suggested that the company take the initiative in establishing multi-level parking facilities at identified locations.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that inadequate parking infrastructure around Metro Rail stations was creating operational and commuter difficulties in urban areas.

He advised Uber to study the feasibility of developing integrated parking infrastructure along with EV charging centres. Responding to the proposal, Uber representatives said the company would examine the concept further.

Revanth Reddy also briefed the delegation about Bharat Future City, which is being developed across nearly 30,000 acres near Hyderabad. He said the project is envisioned as a globally unique future-ready city and that the state government is inviting around 500 leading global companies to establish operations there.

According to the Chief Minister, several organisations have already shown interest in setting up facilities in the proposed city, which is located about 25 km from Shamshabad Airport. He noted that more than 100 companies had participated in a Global Summit held at the project site last December and submitted investment proposals.

Apart from Dara Khosrowshahi, the Uber delegation included Madhu Kannan, Chief Business Officer, Uber; Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India & South Asia; and Praveen Nippalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer. Ajith Reddy, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister, also attended the meeting.
