Mumbai: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Friday unveiled a major administrative integration plan to bring multiple commerce ministry offices and affiliated organizations under a single centralized hub in Mumbai, aimed at improving efficiency, reducing operational costs and strengthening export facilitation.

The proposed integrated centre will connect 46 organizations functioning under the ministry through a unified physical and digital infrastructure, enabling businesses and citizens to access multiple government services from one location.

Addressing officials during a review meeting in Mumbai, Goyal said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business.”

“In Mumbai alone, there are 20 offices of 12 different organizations spread across multiple locations, occupying lakhs of square feet of premium real estate worth hundreds of crores of rupees,” the minister said.

Under the new model, the ministry plans to consolidate offices wherever feasible into a single integrated facility equipped with modern audio-visual and digital connectivity systems. The hub will also digitally connect organizations that do not maintain dedicated physical offices in Mumbai, including export promotion and commodity boards.

According to the ministry, dedicated support personnel will be deployed at the integrated facility to assist businesses, exporters and citizens seeking government services, approvals and trade-related support.

Officials said the initiative is expected to significantly reduce administrative expenditure, improve inter-departmental coordination and simplify stakeholder interaction with the government.

The minister also highlighted the environmental benefits of the co-location strategy, stating that the initiative would reduce fuel consumption, conserve energy and minimize unnecessary travel by citizens and government officials.

The centralized hub is expected to support India’s export promotion efforts by enabling closer coordination among trade-related agencies and export facilitation bodies.

Goyal said the integrated structure would play a strategic role in supporting India’s aggressive export expansion goals, including the target of achieving $1 trillion in exports this year and $2 trillion by 2030.

The proposed integration reflects the Centre’s broader push toward digital governance, administrative modernization and more efficient delivery of public services for industry and citizens.
