New Delhi: The IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Karya to strengthen India’s inclusive artificial intelligence ecosystem through collaboration in data, technology and capacity building.

Karya is a nonprofit organisation working to improve accessibility within the AI economy.

According to MeitY, the partnership will focus on the development, curation and sharing of high-quality language and multimodal datasets aimed at supporting inclusive and representative AI systems.

Kavita Bhatia, Scientist ‘G’, Group Coordinator, MeitY and COO, IndiaAI Mission, said building a truly inclusive AI ecosystem requires datasets that reflect the diversity of India’s people and languages.

“Our collaboration with Karya brings together complementary strengths, and we look forward to creating resources that are both high quality and representative,” she said.

The partnership will also support ecosystem development through:

  • training programmes
  • workshops
  • technical consultations
  • knowledge-sharing initiatives across government and partner institutions

Officials said the collaboration is expected to contribute towards building more inclusive, diverse and locally relevant AI systems aligned with India’s digital public infrastructure and multilingual innovation goals.
