Third Edition of Future Warfare Course to Feature Expanded Curriculum on Emerging Warfare Domains and Military Technologies
The course is being conducted under the aegis of the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, in partnership with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS).
New Delhi: The third edition of the tri-services Future Warfare Course commenced today at the Manekshaw Centre, and will run from February 2 to 25, 2026. The course is being conducted under the aegis of the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, in partnership with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS).
This edition features an expanded and enhanced curriculum, focusing on emerging domains of warfare and the growing impact of technology on military operations. The programme aims to deepen understanding of how advances in technology are reshaping warfighting, necessitating a re-examination of existing concepts, doctrines, strategies and tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs).
The course includes detailed exploration of critical and future-oriented subjects, practical demonstrations of emerging technologies, and visits to institutions central to India’s defence capability development. It is designed to encourage forward-looking thinking on modern and future conflict scenarios.
Participants include officers from all three Services, along with representatives from the defence industry, including startups, MSMEs, defence public sector undertakings and private sector companies. Service participants range in rank from Major to Major General (and equivalent), enabling a rich exchange between operational experience at senior levels and technical expertise from younger officers.
The programme seeks to align the operational priorities of the Armed Forces with the capabilities of India’s indigenous defence industry, fostering open discussion on contemporary and future warfighting challenges. A diverse faculty comprising veterans, serving officers, former ambassadors, industry experts and academic professionals will contribute to a comprehensive analysis of India’s evolving security environment.
In addition to conventional military domains, the course addresses cross-cutting issues such as critical and rare earth elements, supply chain vulnerabilities, and regional and global geopolitics that are expected to significantly influence future military operations.
Building on the success of the inaugural course held in September 2024, the expanded three-week programme reflects the vision of Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Defence Staff, to prepare officers for the complex, multi-domain challenges of modern and future warfare.
