💡 Digital India Insight
PAIMANA represents India’s shift from infrastructure creation to performance-driven infrastructure governance. By continuously measuring outcomes across transport, power, telecom and logistics, the dashboard enables governments to make faster, data-backed investment and policy decisions while improving accountability.

Road transport maintained steady growth, with 9,360 km of National Highways constructed during FY 2025-26. Digital tolling also gathered pace, with electronic toll collection transactions reaching 88 crore during the first two months of FY 2026-27, indicating wider adoption of cashless mobility.

The railways sector reported improved freight efficiency, with the average carrying capacity of broad-gauge wagons rising to a record 64 tonnes per wagon in 2024-25. The rail network has also expanded to over 1.37 lakh track kilometres, while daily passenger traffic reached nearly 20 million during FY 2024-25.

The ports, shipping and waterways sector registered continued growth, with coastal cargo handling increasing and India’s sea-borne trade nearly doubling over the past decade. Inland waterways infrastructure has also expanded, strengthening multimodal logistics and maritime connectivity.

The power sector projections indicate rapid growth in energy storage capacity, with Pumped Storage Plants (PSPs) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) expected to reach 94 GW and 80 GW, respectively, by FY 2035-36, supporting higher renewable energy integration and grid reliability.

According to MoSPI, regular quarterly updates of the PAIMANA dashboard will continue to improve transparency, facilitate informed decision-making and strengthen accountability in infrastructure development. The next quarterly update is scheduled for October 16, 2026.
