Jio, Airtel Lead in Speed and Voice Quality; BSNL Lags in TRAI Hyderabad–Nizamabad Network Test

Hyderabad, September 9: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the results of its Independent Drive Test (IDT) assessing mobile network performance across Hyderabad–Nizamabad National Highway (NH-44), Nizamabad city, and adjoining areas. The tests, conducted from July 28 to 30, 2025, covered 162.6 km of highway, 404.9 km of city routes, hotspot locations, and a 1 km walk test to capture real-world user experiences across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks.
Key Findings – Voice Services
- Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR): RJIL (Jio) achieved the highest at 99.62%, followed by VIL (Vodafone Idea) at 98.68%, Airtel at 98.29%, and BSNL at 97.18%.
- Drop Call Rate (DCR): Both Airtel and RJIL recorded 0.00%, while VIL reported 0.76% and BSNL a high 5.61%.
- Call Setup Time: RJIL had the lowest at 0.77 seconds, followed by VIL (0.80s), Airtel (0.98s), and BSNL (3.28s).
- Mean Opinion Score (MOS): Airtel scored the highest voice quality with 3.95, followed by RJIL (3.83), VIL (3.74), and BSNL (2.75).
Key Findings – Data Services
- Download Speeds (Overall Average): RJIL led with 248.19 Mbps, Airtel at 142.47 Mbps, VIL at 23.71 Mbps, and BSNL at 2.93 Mbps.
- Upload Speeds: Airtel topped at 24.39 Mbps, followed by RJIL (21.43 Mbps), VIL (7.90 Mbps), and BSNL (1.88 Mbps).
- Latency: RJIL offered the lowest latency at 20.95 ms, followed by Airtel (24.60 ms), BSNL (33.60 ms), and VIL (44.90 ms).
Hotspot Performance
At key stationary hotspots such as Kamareddy Bus Stand, Nizamabad Collector Office, Kanteshwar Temple, and Nizamabad Area Hospital:
- RJIL recorded 447.09 Mbps (5G download) and 42.31 Mbps (5G upload).
- Airtel delivered 114.04 Mbps (5G download) and 14.45 Mbps (5G upload).
- VIL managed 15.40 Mbps (4G download) and 8.44 Mbps (4G upload).
- 5G service was not observed for BSNL.

The survey included urban, rural, and institutional areas spanning Masaipet, Narsingi, Ramayampet, Bhiknoor, Kamareddy, Dharmaram, Patharajampet, Banswada, Rudrur, Armur, and Jakranpalle.
