New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari reviewed a series of proposed high-speed and high-density highway corridors in Maharashtra, along with key Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) projects, aimed at strengthening connectivity and accelerating economic growth in the region.
The review meeting focused on major national highway projects spanning multiple strategic corridors. These include six-laning of the Nagpur–Bhandara section, four-laning of Taloda–Burhanpur, and the development of key inter-state routes such as Durg–Gadchiroli–Mancherial, Gadchiroli–Kanker (Raipur–Vizag), Gwalior–Nagpur and Nagpur–Hyderabad corridors.
Other priority projects discussed include six-laning of the Bhandara–Raipur and Nagpur–Amravati stretches, the Lakhnadon–Durg–Raipur corridor, and the Madhya Pradesh–Maharashtra border–Nagpur bypass–Borkhedi stretch on NH-44. The six-laning of the Pune–Satara section also featured prominently in the discussions.
Officials said the focus of the review was on expediting planning and execution timelines to ensure timely completion of projects critical for freight movement, regional connectivity and industrial growth.
The meeting also reviewed nine state BOT projects covering a total length of 527 km on national highway stretches within Maharashtra. These include the Shirur–Ahilyanagar, Ahilyanagar–Wadala, Wadala–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Jalna and Jalna–Watur corridors, all planned as four-lane highways.
Additional BOT projects include the Nanded–Narsi–Deglur stretch with a mix of four-lane and two-lane development, as well as Jam–Warora, Warora–Chandrapur–Bamni and Malkapur–Chikhli corridors.
The review underscores the government’s continued emphasis on expanding high-capacity road infrastructure, with a focus on improving logistics efficiency, reducing travel time and enabling economic activity across regions.
Officials indicated that coordinated efforts between central agencies, state authorities and private developers will be key to accelerating project delivery and maximising the impact of these infrastructure investments.
