Dharamshala: The Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice will organise a regional workshop under the Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice (DISHA) scheme and a ‘Reforms Utsav’ in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, on June 15, showcasing the government’s efforts to expand access to justice through technology, legal awareness and citizen-centric reforms.
The event, scheduled at the Government Degree College (PG) Auditorium in Kangra district, is expected to be attended by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and the minister of state (independent charge) for law and justice, along with senior officials from the justice sector.
A major highlight of the programme will be the launch of “Nyaya Prabodh – Awakening to Justice,” a year-long nationwide legal awareness campaign aimed at strengthening citizens’ understanding of their constitutional and legal rights and responsibilities.
According to the Department of Justice, the initiative seeks to improve legal literacy and encourage greater public participation in the justice delivery system.
As part of the campaign, several citizen-focused programmes will be introduced, including “Know Your Rights in 90 Seconds,” a short-format legal awareness initiative designed to explain legal rights and remedies in an accessible manner. Another component, the Nyaya Quiz, will engage students and young citizens on constitutional values, legal institutions and civic rights.
The campaign will also feature a Pro Bono Pledge, encouraging advocates, law students and legal professionals to voluntarily offer legal assistance and guidance to underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society.
The regional workshop will begin with a welcome address by the Secretary, Department of Justice, outlining the government’s vision for ensuring affordable, inclusive and accessible justice for all citizens.
The programme will also spotlight pro bono legal initiatives undertaken by the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, with faculty members and students sharing their experiences in community legal service programmes.
Another key segment will focus on the impact of the Tele-Law initiative, featuring a documentary showcasing beneficiary experiences and live interactions with Tele-Law panel lawyers, village-level entrepreneurs operating through Common Service Centres, and beneficiaries who have accessed legal assistance through the platform.
The event will further host Reforms Utsav, an exhibition highlighting major milestones achieved by the Department of Justice over the past twelve years. The showcase will cover developments in judicial infrastructure, digital transformation of courts, legal aid services, legal awareness programmes, judicial capacity building and technology-enabled justice delivery.
Officials from high court registries, legal services authorities, bar associations, Common Service Centres, the ministry of rural development, law universities and educational institutions are expected to participate. Stakeholders from across the country will also join the programme virtually.
The Department of Justice said the workshop reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that justice is not only delivered efficiently but is also accessible, understandable and available to every citizen, while creating a platform for collaboration and the sharing of best practices in building a more inclusive and technology-driven justice system.
