‘Spice and Heal’ Initiative Aims to Position India as Global Wellness Hub
The agreement was signed in the presence of Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, in New Delhi on Monday.

New Delhi: In a major push to strengthen India’s global presence in traditional wellness and natural products, AYUSHEXCIL and the Spices Board of India have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly promote Ayush products and medicinal spices in international markets.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, in New Delhi on Monday.
Describing the partnership as “visionary and forward-looking,” Jadhav said the collaboration marks an important step towards strengthening India’s traditional wellness systems and expanding the global reach of Ayurveda, medicinal plants and Indian spices.
He said Ayurveda and Indian spices have historically symbolised preventive healthcare, natural healing and balanced living, and noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to benefiting farmers, exporters, startups, MSMEs and consumers worldwide.
The Minister highlighted that the collaboration would focus on quality enhancement, traceability, scientific validation, innovation, export promotion and international market development for Ayurveda and spice-based products.
He also underlined the significance of the proposed “Spice and Heal” initiative, stating that it has the potential to emerge as a strong global branding campaign positioning India as a leader in holistic wellness and natural healthcare solutions.
“The initiative aligns closely with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local, Make in India and Heal in India,” Jadhav said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently recognised India’s traditional knowledge systems as key pillars of economic growth and global identity.
The MoU was signed by Anurag Sharma, Chairman of AYUSHEXCIL, and MS Manivannan, Secretary of the Spices Board of India.
Under the partnership, both organisations will collaborate on export promotion, standardisation, research, innovation and branding of functional foods, nutraceuticals, herbal extracts and value-added Ayurvedic and spice-based products.
The collaboration will also include development of traceability frameworks, scientific validation mechanisms, capacity-building initiatives, Codex engagement and joint participation in international trade fairs and promotional campaigns.
Officials said the initiative is expected to create new opportunities for farmers, exporters, women entrepreneurs, startups and MSMEs while enhancing India’s export growth and global visibility in the rapidly expanding wellness economy.
The government expressed confidence that the partnership would contribute to employment generation, rural development, farmer empowerment and stronger international collaboration in the wellness and natural products sector.
