Indian Navy takes delivery of third indigenous anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft Mangrol
The Indian Navy has taken delivery of Mangrol, the third anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft built by Cochin Shipyard, featuring over 80% indigenous content.
The vessel, which was delivered to the Navy on August 21, 2026, incorporates more than 80% indigenous content and has been designed for anti-submarine warfare operations in coastal waters, Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO) and mine warfare.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy on Friday took delivery of Mangrol, the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, strengthening its capabilities for underwater surveillance and coastal anti-submarine operations.
The vessel, which was delivered to the Navy on August 21, 2026, incorporates more than 80% indigenous content and has been designed for anti-submarine warfare operations in coastal waters, Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO) and mine warfare.
Mangrol is propelled by waterjets and is equipped with torpedoes, anti-submarine rockets, advanced radars and sonars. These systems are intended to enable the vessel to undertake underwater surveillance and detect and counter submarine threats in shallow coastal waters.
The ship derives its name from Mangrol, a coastal town and minor port in Gujarat’s Junagadh district that serves as a prominent harbour for the marine fishing industry.
The name also carries forward the legacy of the erstwhile INS Mangrol, an Indian Naval minesweeper that remained in service until 2004, continuing the Navy’s tradition of preserving the names of earlier warships.
The delivery marks another addition to the Indian Navy’s indigenous shipbuilding programme and comes amid efforts to increase domestic content in naval platforms and strengthen India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
With more than 80% indigenous content, Mangrol also reflects the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative aimed at expanding domestic design, manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities in the defence sector.
