Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, September 8: AURIC (Aurangabad Industrial City), Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area, Maharashtra, one of India’s first greenfield industrial smart cities under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), has completed six years, emerging as a benchmark for industrial townships, sustainable development, and global investment.

In this period, 323 plots have been allotted across industrial and mixed-use categories, covering 3,029 acres of industrial land and 117 acres of mixed-use land. The projects attracted an investment potential of ₹71,343 crore with the capacity to generate 62,405 direct and indirect jobs. Currently, 78 units are operational, 62 factories are under construction, and another 184 units are preparing to begin work.

Growth Anchors in Shendra and Bidkin

The Shendra Industrial Area has attracted investments worth ₹6,096 crore, generating more than 14,000 jobs. Investors include South Korea’s Hyosung, which established its first spandex plant in India, along with global names such as Perkins (UK), Fuji Silvertech (Japan), Oerlikon Bakiers (Liechtenstein), Siemens (Germany), NLMK (Russia), and Kohler (USA).

Meanwhile, the Bidkin Industrial Area has rapidly developed into a growth engine for the Marathwada region, drawing investments of over ₹76,000 crore from companies such as Ather Energy, Lubrizol, Toyota Kirloskar, and JSW Green Mobility. This alone is expected to generate employment for more than 35,000 people.

MSMEs and Inclusive Development

AURIC has placed special emphasis on MSMEs and women entrepreneurs. Notable names include Vaishali Ajeet Deshpande of Anukul Power Engineers, Dr. Hershali Sandeep Deshmukh of Turbonova Polymer, and Payal Naikwad of Rayon Illuminations and Energy Solutions. In total, 135 MSMEs have been allotted land in Shendra and 49 in Bidkin.

To further align talent with industry needs, a 20,000 sq. ft. Skill Development Centre is being set up in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). In another move to support smaller firms, office space rents for MSMEs were halved to ₹25 per sq. ft. earlier this year.

Smart Infrastructure and Connectivity

AURIC provides investors with world-class plug-and-play infrastructure, assured utilities, advanced sewage and effluent treatment, e-governance, single-window clearances, and a central command and control system. It is supported by multi-modal connectivity, including the Samruddhi Mahamarg, the proposed Sambhajinagar–Pune Greenfield Expressway, Jalna Dry Port, Aurangabad Airport, and key railway lines. As part of the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor, the township enjoys direct linkages with national and global markets.

A Model for Viksit Bharat 2047

NICDC CEO and MD Rajat Kumar Saini said the AURIC model demonstrates how smart industrial townships can empower MSMEs, create jobs, and transform regions. “In just six years, AURIC has become a magnet for global and domestic investors, setting benchmarks for future-ready hubs of manufacturing, sustainability, and inclusive growth,” he noted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated AURIC City and its landmark AURIC Hall on September 7, 2019, symbolising its focus on technology-enabled governance. The township has since become integral to Maharashtra’s ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030 and India’s national vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
