Furniture brand plans wider distribution as demand for sleep wellness products rises in India

Mumbai: Interio by Godrej, the furniture brand of Godrej Enterprises Group, is expanding its mattress portfolio and distribution network to tap into India’s growing demand for sleep and wellness products, with a target of generating ₹150 crore in revenue from the mattress category by FY29.

As part of its expansion strategy, the company plans to appoint 25 new mattress distributors and increase its retail reach to more than 300 retailers across the country, strengthening its presence not only in major metropolitan markets but also in emerging Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

Rising awareness driving sleep wellness market

Industry data suggests that India’s mattress market is currently valued at $2.4 billion and is expected to reach $3.89 billion by 2031, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.6%.

Foam and memory foam mattresses account for more than 52% of the market, while hybrid mattress formats are emerging as one of the fastest-growing segments. The orthopaedic mattress category, which focuses on spinal support and pressure relief, is also expanding rapidly.

The orthopaedic mattress segment alone was valued at $98.06 million in 2024 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 25.8% between 2025 and 2033, reflecting rising consumer awareness about sleep quality and musculoskeletal health.

Dev Sarkar, Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business at Interio by Godrej, said changing lifestyles and rising health awareness are influencing consumer purchasing behaviour in the category.

“India’s mattress market is evolving as consumers become more conscious of the role sleep plays in overall health. Urbanisation, rising incomes and improving housing conditions are influencing how people invest in their homes, including their sleep environment,” Sarkar said.

New product lines across price segments

To address changing consumer preferences, Interio is expanding its product range across orthopaedic, foam and spring mattress segments.

The company’s Orthomatic series, designed for firm back support, includes variants such as Orthomatic Premium, Orthomatic Super and Orthomatic Max, built with bonded foam and support foam layers aimed at improving posture and durability.

The portfolio also includes Sleepsy, a bonded foam mattress positioned as an accessible orthopaedic comfort option, and Sleep Grande, a premium mattress featuring a seven-zone pocket spring system designed to support different parts of the body and maintain natural spinal alignment during sleep.

Premium segment focus and retail expansion

Looking ahead, Interio plans to place greater emphasis on its premium mattress offerings, including foam, spring and orthopaedic mattresses, while strengthening its omnichannel presence across Tier-I and Tier-II markets.

The company currently operates 50 company outlets, more than 600 dealer outlets and over 1,000 retailers nationwide, enabling wider access to its home and sleep solutions across urban and emerging markets.

Expanding consumer lifestyle segment

Industry observers note that the mattress category is increasingly becoming part of the broader sleep wellness and lifestyle segment, driven by urban housing growth, rising disposable incomes and growing consumer awareness about the health impact of sleep quality.

For companies such as Interio, expanding mattress offerings alongside furniture and home interior products provides an opportunity to strengthen their presence in the fast-growing home lifestyle market.
