In its first phase, the service will operate across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, enabling assured delivery of time-sensitive documents and parcels within one day.
New premium service targets time-sensitive consignments, strengthens India Post’s position in the express logistics market
New Delhi: The department of posts will launch a new premium express delivery service, ‘24 Speed Post’, offering next-day guaranteed delivery for urgent consignments across six major metropolitan cities, marking a significant upgrade to India Post’s logistics capabilities.
The service will be formally launched on March 17 by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani at Rangbhawan Auditorium in Akashwani Bhawan, New Delhi.
In its first phase, the service will operate across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, enabling assured delivery of time-sensitive documents and parcels within one day.
Expanding India Post’s premium logistics offerings
The new service introduces a structured D+1 (next day) delivery commitment, supported by dedicated operational infrastructure including priority processing windows and air transmission networks.
Alongside this, the department of posts will also offer 24 and 48 Speed Post options, ensuring guaranteed D+1 and D+2 delivery timelines for consignments between major logistics hubs.
Officials say the initiative is designed to strengthen India Post’s competitiveness in India’s rapidly expanding express delivery and e-commerce logistics sector, which has traditionally been dominated by private courier companies.
Technology-enabled secure delivery
The upgraded service incorporates several digital and operational features aimed at improving reliability and customer experience.
These include OTP-based secure delivery, ensuring that consignments are handed over only after authentication by the recipient.
Customers will also receive end-to-end tracking with SMS alerts, providing real-time updates on shipment status.
For enterprise users and large senders, the service introduces a buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) facility, centralized billing systems, and API integration that allows businesses to connect their logistics workflows directly with India Post’s network.
Bulk customers will also benefit from free pickup services, reducing operational friction for businesses that ship large volumes of documents or parcels.
Money-back guarantee for delayed deliveries
One of the most notable features of the new offering is a money-back guarantee in case of delayed delivery, a mechanism designed to reinforce reliability and customer trust in the service.
Such performance guarantees are widely used in global express logistics services and signal the department’s effort to position India Post’s premium offerings closer to private sector service benchmarks.
Strategic push into the express logistics market
The launch of 24 Speed Post comes at a time when India’s logistics ecosystem is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by e-commerce growth, digital payments, and increasing demand for time-bound deliveries.
India Post operates one of the world’s largest postal networks, with more than 1.5 lakh post offices, providing unmatched reach into rural and remote regions.
However, in the premium courier segment — particularly for urgent urban deliveries — private logistics firms have traditionally held an advantage due to faster processing systems and integrated air networks.
By introducing guaranteed delivery timelines, enhanced tracking systems and enterprise-friendly features, the department of posts appears to be repositioning Speed Post as a stronger competitor in the high-value express logistics segment.
Boost for businesses and government communications
Industry observers note that services such as 24 Speed Post could benefit a wide range of users including financial institutions, legal services, government agencies, and e-commerce businesses, where reliable next-day document delivery remains critical.
For government departments, courts and regulatory bodies, assured delivery timelines can significantly improve administrative efficiency and reduce delays in document transmission.
Strengthening India Post’s modernization drive
The new service also reflects broader efforts by the department of posts to modernize its operations through technology integration, logistics optimization and customer-centric service design.
With digital tracking, automated notifications and enterprise integration tools, India Post is increasingly aligning its services with modern logistics standards while leveraging its extensive national network.
Officials say the initiative is expected to enhance India Post’s premium delivery portfolio and reinforce its role in supporting India’s growing digital and logistics economy.
