Defence minister Rajnath Singh releases “Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military” in New Delhi on Tuesday. New Delhi: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday released “Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military”, a strategic blueprint aimed at transforming India’s armed forces into a modern, integrated and technologically advanced military by the centenary of independence.
The vision document, prepared by the headquarters integrated defence staff, outlines key reforms, capability upgrades and organisational changes required for the armed forces to effectively respond to evolving geopolitical, technological and security challenges.
It envisages the transformation of the military into an integrated, multi-domain and agile force capable of deterring adversaries, responding across the full spectrum of conflict and safeguarding India’s expanding strategic interests amid changing global dynamics.
A key pillar of the roadmap is enhanced jointness among the Army, Navy and Air Force to improve coordination in planning, operations and capability development. The document also emphasises innovation, advanced technologies and modern training frameworks to prepare the forces for future warfare.
The blueprint highlights self-reliance in defence as another critical priority, encouraging the development and adoption of indigenous technologies and strengthening domestic defence manufacturing to improve operational readiness while supporting national economic growth.
The roadmap outlines short-term, medium-term and long-term capability goals to guide institutional reforms, capability development and strategic partnerships required to build a world-class military.
The document also calls for a whole-of-nation approach to national security by integrating military strength with diplomatic, technological and economic capabilities.
