New Delhi: Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan on Monday said the National Cadet Corps (NCC) is playing a crucial role in shaping India’s future leadership, as he inaugurated the NCC Republic Day Camp 2026 at the DGNCC Camp in New Delhi.

Addressing cadets, Radhakrishnan said the NCC, now in its 78th year, has emerged as the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation, nurturing disciplined, responsible and patriotic citizens. He described the Republic Day Camp as a reflection of India’s trust in its youth and a symbol of national unity.

Referring to the NCC motto “Unity and Discipline”, the Vice-President said the organisation continues to create confident, values-driven young citizens who will form the backbone of Viksit Bharat@2047. He noted that a developed and self-reliant India depends on skilled, disciplined and service-oriented youth, a space where the NCC plays a defining role.

Highlighting the contribution of NCC cadets during Operation Sindoor, he said nearly 72,000 cadets volunteered for civil defence duties, demonstrating courage, commitment and readiness to serve the nation during critical times.

Radhakrishnan said the NCC Republic Day Camp embodies constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, with cadets from different states and Union Territories living and training together. He also praised NCC cadets for their performance in adventure activities, international youth exchange programmes, environmental initiatives and disaster relief operations, including their service during the Wayanad floods in Kerala.

Welcoming the modernisation of NCC training, including cyber and drone modules and the establishment of a Remote Pilot Training Academy, he said such initiatives would equip youth to meet emerging technological and security challenges. He also appreciated the efforts of NCC officers, instructors and staff in shaping young minds and strengthening national character.

Earlier, the Vice-President inspected a Guard of Honour by NCC cadets, visited the Hall of Fame and exhibition stalls showcasing initiatives such as the YUVA Aapda Mitra Scheme and drone training. He later witnessed a cultural programme and interacted with the cadets.

The event was attended by Director General, NCC, Virendra Vats, senior officials, instructors and cadets from across the country.
