Revanth Reddy asks officials to give Warangal, Adilabad airports Telangana heritage identity
The Telangana Chief Minister reviewed airport and Telangana Bhavan designs and called for coordinated infrastructure planning, wider road links and architectural elements inspired by Kakatiya heritage.
During a review meeting on Tuesday, the Chief Minister examined the designs of the three projects and suggested modifications to incorporate elements inspired by the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, Ramappa Temple and Pillalamarri Temple.
HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to ensure that the proposed airports at Warangal and Adilabad, along with the Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, reflect the state’s cultural and architectural heritage.
During a review meeting on Tuesday, the Chief Minister examined the designs of the three projects and suggested modifications to incorporate elements inspired by the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, Ramappa Temple and Pillalamarri Temple. He asked officials to study their architectural and sculptural styles while finalising the designs.
Coordinated approach to airport works
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on infrastructure issues associated with the proposed airports, including shifting power lines, diversion of streams and roads, and relocation of BSNL lines and drinking water supply pipelines.
Revanth Reddy directed the Energy, Roads & Buildings, Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation departments to coordinate with BSNL and other agencies so that works under different departments could proceed simultaneously without delays.
He stressed the need for a comprehensive plan that considers both the current requirements and future expansion needs of the airport projects.
Wider road connectivity
The Chief Minister instructed officials to construct roads along the airport compound walls and connect them with nearby district, State and national highways.
He also called for a wider road network linking the airports with major highways and cautioned that executing individual works without coordination among departments could lead to complications and delays.
The meeting also discussed the diversion of water bodies and streams around the airport sites. Revanth Reddy suggested constructing or relocating tanks within or near the airport premises wherever necessary to facilitate the diversion of water flows.
Heritage-inspired designs
The emphasis on Telangana’s architectural identity follows earlier discussions on the proposed Warangal (Mamnoor) and Adilabad airports. The State government has previously sought international-standard facilities at the airports, including passenger, cargo and MRO infrastructure.
The review meeting was attended by Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, MPs Vem Narender Reddy and Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Government Whip Birla Ailaiah, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, CM’s Principal Secretary N. Sridhar, R&B Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, Energy Special Chief Secretary Navin Mittal and senior officials from various departments, besides aviation and power sector representatives.
