NEW DELHI: As artificial intelligence reshapes both innovation and cyber threats, cybersecurity firm NETSCOUT has announced a major expansion of its cloud-based DDoS protection infrastructure, doubling the mitigation capacity of its Arbor Cloud platform to 33 terabits per second (Tbps). The move is aimed at helping enterprises, service providers and governments protect critical digital infrastructure against increasingly sophisticated AI-driven, internet-scale distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.
The company said the expanded capacity, coupled with its recent acquisition of additional DDoS network infrastructure, will enhance the resilience of mission-critical digital services by ensuring uninterrupted availability during large-scale cyberattacks. The upgraded platform will support always-on AI-powered businesses, safeguard revenue-generating digital operations and strengthen customer trust in an era of escalating cyber risks.
Unlike conventional cloud mitigation services that primarily add bandwidth, Arbor Cloud combines large-scale mitigation capacity with real-time global threat intelligence. Powered by NETSCOUT’s extensive visibility into internet attack activity, the platform operates through 16 global scrubbing centres that filter malicious traffic before it reaches customer networks, enabling organisations to withstand attacks across multiple vectors simultaneously.
The announcement comes amid a sharp rise in the scale and sophistication of DDoS attacks worldwide. According to industry estimates cited by the company, rapid cloud adoption and the growing use of artificial intelligence have created new opportunities for cybercriminals. Multi-vector attacks have become increasingly common, while large botnets such as Aisuru and Kimwolf have demonstrated the ability to launch attacks approaching or even exceeding 30 Tbps, significantly raising the threat level for organisations operating critical digital infrastructure.
Carlos Morales, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Arbor Cloud at NETSCOUT, said threat actors are increasingly exploiting AI to launch more complex DDoS attacks capable of disrupting essential services. As organisations rely more heavily on AI-powered applications and cloud-native platforms, automated and proactive cyber defence has become a business imperative rather than merely an IT requirement, he said.
According to the company, the increased capacity enables Arbor Cloud to absorb larger volumetric attacks, mitigate multiple attack vectors simultaneously, maintain consistent operational performance during sustained attacks, and provide faster stabilisation following traffic spikes. These capabilities are particularly important for sectors such as banking and financial services, healthcare, retail, telecommunications and government, where uninterrupted digital services are essential.
The platform forms part of NETSCOUT’s multi-layered DDoS protection architecture, integrating on-premises security with cloud-based traffic scrubbing through automated signalling. This hybrid approach is designed to block attacks close to their source while diverting large-scale attack traffic to dedicated cloud infrastructure. Arbor Cloud is supported by a 24×7 Security Operations Centre staffed by cybersecurity specialists who continuously monitor and respond to emerging threats. The company expects the capacity expansion to be completed by the end of August 2026.
