CAQM Flags 34 Road Dust Violations in Delhi; Directs Stronger Clean-Up Measures
The inspection was conducted on April 22 by five flying squad teams across Civil Lines, Karol Bagh and West Delhi areas under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
CAQM noted that road dust and poorly managed C&D waste remain major contributors to urban air pollution and called for a more proactive approach, including fixing accountability for lapses and enhancing monitoring systems.

New Delhi: Commission for Air Quality Management has identified 34 instances of visible road dust and construction waste accumulation across key stretches in the national capital, following an inspection drive to assess pollution hotspots and the effectiveness of cleaning operations.
According to official details, the inspection was conducted on April 22 by five flying squad teams across Civil Lines, Karol Bagh and West Delhi areas under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
The teams reported violations on multiple roads, including Mahakavi Goswami Tulsidas Marg, Najafgarh Road, Ring Road (Punjabi Bagh), Azadpur Road and Bhalswa Dairy Road, where high levels of dust and accumulated construction and demolition (C&D) waste were observed.
The findings point to gaps in routine mechanised sweeping, water sprinkling, and timely removal of debris—key measures required to control localised sources of particulate pollution.
The Commission has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to strengthen on-ground implementation of dust mitigation measures, ensure regular mechanised road sweeping, improve water sprinkling coverage, and enforce strict action against unauthorised dumping of waste.
CAQM noted that road dust and poorly managed C&D waste remain major contributors to urban air pollution and called for a more proactive approach, including fixing accountability for lapses and enhancing monitoring systems.
The inspection forms part of ongoing enforcement efforts under Operation Clean Air, with the Commission stating that such drives will continue across Delhi-NCR to ensure compliance with statutory directions and effective implementation of pollution control measures, including GRAP protocols.
