New Delhi: Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) showcased India’s growing hydrogen innovation ecosystem through a one-day exhibition featuring 18 startups working across the green hydrogen value chain.

The exhibition brought together startups developing technologies spanning electrolysers, fuel cells, hydrogen production, biomass-based solutions and AI-driven systems, providing a platform for interaction with stakeholders from government, industry and research institutions.

The participating startups represented a wide cross-section of emerging technologies, including electrolyser and stack component developers, hydrogen production and bio-hydrogen innovators, fuel cell and hydrogen application startups, safety technology providers such as MEMS-based sensors, drone-based hydrogen solutions, hydrogen-based cooking technologies, and AI and machine learning-driven optimisation systems.

According to Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), India had 249 hydrogen-focused startups as of September 2025, reflecting rapid growth in the sector.

The exhibition comes in the backdrop of MNRE’s ‘New and Novel Uses of Hydrogen’ scheme, which earmarks ₹100 crore for startup-led pilot projects, with a maximum grant of ₹5 crore per startup.

Following the scheme’s launch, National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) received 111 applications, of which 58 startups were shortlisted for presentation before the project appraisal committee earlier this year. The results are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The event saw participation from key policymakers and scientific leadership, including Ajay Sood, along with MNRE secretary Santosh Sarangi and senior officials from the Principal Scientific Adviser’s office and the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The exhibition is part of MNRE’s broader effort to build a robust innovation pipeline in green hydrogen, a key pillar of India’s clean energy transition strategy. This is the second such startup-focused event, following an earlier expo held during the R&D Conference in September, signalling continued government engagement with early-stage innovators.
