Hyderabad: The Telangana government has constituted a special committee to identify individuals who participated in the Telangana statehood movement and recommend measures to recognise and honour their contributions and sacrifices.

The General Administration (Cabinet) Department issued GO Rt. No. 679 on Friday constituting the committee following directions from chief minister A. Revanth Reddy.

According to the government order, the committee has been formed in recognition of the prolonged multi-phase agitation that led to the formation of Telangana state, during which several activists lost their lives, suffered physical disabilities, or faced criminal cases and imprisonment.

Government advisor Dr K. Keshava Rao will serve as the chairman of the committee.

The members include transport and BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MLC M. Kodandaram, MLC and whip Addanki Dayakar, former MLC S. Ramulu Naik and Mothe Shobhan Reddy.

The secretary to government (Political), General Administration Department, will act as the convener of the committee.

As per the terms of reference, the committee will formulate criteria for identifying Telangana movement activists, prepare a list of eligible individuals, and recommend the nature of recognitions, honours, courtesies and facilities to be extended to them.

The committee has also been authorised to call officials, seek information and conduct meetings for the purpose of its proceedings. It may consult any other persons or officials deemed necessary.

The government has directed all departments and officials to extend full cooperation to the committee and asked it to submit its report and recommendations expeditiously.
