Skilled, Ethical Leadership Vital for Viksit Bharat Vision: Anurag Singh Thakur at FCPLG ‘Tark Manch’
The interactive session with Thakur allowed students to gain firsthand insights into governance and political processes.
New Delhi, August 21: Former Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Thursday stressed the need for skilled, ethical, and visionary leadership to steer India toward its development goals, while addressing the FCPLG ‘Tark Manch’ debate ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Museum & Library Auditorium in Delhi.
Speaking as the chief guest, Thakur, who currently chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines & Steel, said true leadership was not about occupying high offices but about “everyday actions that bring real change.” He underlined the role of India’s 40 crore young citizens in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, urging them to engage actively in governance and policy-making while staying vigilant against dynastic politics.
“In a democracy, leaders are expected to walk alongside the people as companions, not demand blind loyalty,” Thakur remarked, while encouraging students to embrace responsibility and shape the nation’s future.
The event, hosted by the FORE Centre for Political Leadership and Governance (FCPLG), combined a felicitation ceremony for Thakur with the award distribution of the Tark Manch inter-college debate competition. Students from Delhi University and the FORE School of Management showcased their debating skills, with winners recognised for their performance.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr Abhay Anand Tiwari, CEO of FCPLG, said the Centre is committed to nurturing future-ready leaders grounded in values. “This felicitation and debate competition reflect our mission to create platforms where young minds can engage with ideas, sharpen their perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to the democratic process,” he added.
Dr BBL Madhukar, Chairman of FORE, highlighted India’s demographic dividend as a strength, while stressing the importance of mentorship and critical thinking. Vice Chairman Dr Vinayshil Gautam also shared insights on leadership challenges and responsibilities.
The interactive session with Thakur allowed students to gain firsthand insights into governance and political processes. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by a networking lunch that facilitated dialogue among policymakers, academicians, and students.
