New Delhi, November 21: The National e-Governance Division has concluded a three-day training programme on “Drone Technology and Its Applications,” held from November 17–19 in collaboration with IIT Ropar. The initiative, part of NeGD’s Digital India capacity-building efforts, introduced government officials to the rapidly evolving role of drones in governance, public service delivery and infrastructure management.

The programme combined classroom learning with extensive field demonstrations, covering regulatory frameworks, the Digital Sky platform, surveying and mapping, agricultural applications, mining operations, disaster response, drone forensics and anti-drone systems. Participants trained directly on drone flying and field-based surveying, gaining hands-on exposure to how drones can be deployed for real-world administrative challenges.

Officials said the focus on experiential learning helped participants understand drones as scalable, cost-effective tools for agriculture, environmental monitoring, resource management and emergency situations. The cohort also engaged with startups at IIT Ropar’s Technology Business Incubation Foundation, offering a close look at India’s fast-growing drone innovation ecosystem.

More than 25 ministries and state departments took part in the programme, which NeGD described as an important step in bridging research, technology and governance. The training aligns with Digital India’s objective of equipping government personnel with emerging technology skills that strengthen efficiency, innovation and citizen-centric services.
