GITAM Opens PhD Admissions 2026 with ₹33000 Fellowship, Translational Research Focus
The admission process includes the GITAM Research Admissions Test (GReAT) followed by interviews. Candidates holding valid CSIR, UGC-NET, GATE, GPAT, ICAR, or DBT-JRF scores are exempted from the entrance test

Hyderabad: GITAM Deemed to be University has opened applications for PhD admissions for the academic year 2026–27 across its Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru campuses, with the university offering monthly fellowships of ₹33,000 and expanded support for translational and multidisciplinary research.
According to the university, applications for the doctoral programmes will remain open till May 11, 2026. The full-time PhD programme provides a fellowship for up to three years along with access to research facilities, collaborative projects, conferences, and workshops.
Admissions are open in Engineering, Science, Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Pharmacy, Law, Architecture, and Public Policy. The admission process includes the GITAM Research Admissions Test (GReAT) followed by interviews. Candidates holding valid CSIR, UGC-NET, GATE, GPAT, ICAR, or DBT-JRF scores are exempted from the entrance test and can directly appear for interviews.
A key component of GITAM’s doctoral ecosystem is the Multidisciplinary Unit of Research on Translational Initiatives (MURTI), a research platform that brings together more than 300 multidisciplinary experts and research clusters supported by over ₹100 crore investment in translational research infrastructure.
The university said MURTI supports research across six focus domains including basic sciences, mobility technologies, materials and manufacturing, communication technologies, agricultural technologies, and sensor technologies. The initiative is aimed at encouraging scholars to work on industry-relevant and cross-disciplinary research problems.
Researchers will have access to advanced scientific instruments available through GITAM’s I-STEM platform, including a 500 MHz NMR spectroscope, powder X-ray diffractometer, LC-MS QToF HRMS system, gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer, field emission scanning electron microscope, confocal laser scanning microscope, flow cytometer, fluorescence-activated cell sorting system, 3D printers, and CNC machining facilities.
These facilities support advanced work in molecular characterisation, genomics, proteomics, nanotechnology, microscopy, materials science, environmental analysis, and advanced manufacturing.
According to institutional data, GITAM has recorded over 300 patents, 370 research projects, more than 21,000 publications, and over 173,000 citations, with a Scopus h-index of 100.
Established in 1980, GITAM serves more than 28,000 students across its three campuses and has over 96,000 alumni across 105 countries. The university holds NAAC A++ accreditation and is recognised as a Category-1 institution by the UGC.
The university was ranked 88 among universities in the NIRF Rankings 2025 and is also featured in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 and Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025.
