DRDO Opens Advanced CBRN Field Training & Demonstration Centre in Delhi
Facility to strengthen India’s preparedness for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear emergencies

New Delhi: Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) on Wednesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Field Training & Demonstration Centre at Burari plains in Delhi to enhance the country’s preparedness for radiological and nuclear emergencies.
Inaugurated by Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, the centre has been developed as part of the upcoming CBRN Centre of Excellence under Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS), the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
According to DRDO, the new centre will function as a dedicated hub for training, field demonstrations and research related to CBRN emergency response. The facility includes advanced radiological and nuclear test-bed infrastructure, a heavy ion research facility, emergency medical response systems and real-time field response units.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening coordination and operational readiness among multiple agencies involved in disaster preparedness and crisis management, including the ministry of defence, ministry of home affairs, and the National Disaster Management Authority.
DRDO said the centre will conduct specialised training programmes and workshops to prepare the next generation of CBRN response specialists while integrating the latest technologies and response techniques into field operations.
Senior DRDO officials present at the inauguration included Upendra Kumar Singh, Chandrika Kaushik and Ravindra Singh, along with scientists and other dignitaries.
