NEW DELHI: The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is holding a two-day international conference-cum-exhibition in the national capital to work out how artificial intelligence can be put to use across India’s electricity sector. Titled “Making Indian Power Sector AI Enabled”, the brainstorming conclave runs on October 14 and 15 at the Manekshaw Centre.

Union ministers, senior government officials, policymakers, industry leaders, technology experts and researchers are taking part. The aim is to identify practical, actionable ways of using AI and other emerging technologies to improve the efficiency, reliability, resilience and sustainability of the power system, from generation to distribution.

The agenda covers optimising conventional power generation, AI-driven regulatory reforms, integrating renewable energy into the grid, improving grid flexibility, and modernising transmission and distribution networks. Sessions will also look at grid stability and system restoration, rooftop solar, microgrids and minigrids, demand response and consumer participation, AI-enabled supply chain management, and the use of AI in green data centres.

With electricity networks becoming more digital and interconnected, cybersecurity and the protection of critical power infrastructure are also set to feature in the discussions.

Alongside the conference, an exhibition will showcase emerging technologies and solutions for the sector. A dedicated youth session on AI, innovation and opportunities in the power sector will give young innovators and professionals a platform to engage with new technologies and industry needs.

The conclave is aligned with India’s goals of energy security, sustainable development and net-zero emissions by 2070, as well as the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The CEA expects the event to encourage collaboration among government bodies, utilities, industry, academia and technology providers, and to support knowledge-sharing, investment and technology partnerships, with international participation expected. Stakeholders can register through the CEA website, according to an official release.
