Over 1.8 crore farmers onboarded as digital agriculture platform expands nationwide reach

New Delhi, March 17: The national agriculture market (e-NAM) platform has integrated 1,656 mandis across 23 states and 4 union territories, enabling over 1.80 crore farmers to access digital trading of agricultural commodities, the government said on Tuesday.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Bhagirath Choudhary in a written reply in Lok Sabha said that the platform has facilitated trading of 13.22 crore metric tonnes of agricultural produce, with a total trade value of ₹4.82 lakh crore since inception.

Launched in 2016, e-NAM is an online trading platform designed to connect physical wholesale agricultural markets across the country, facilitating transparent price discovery and competitive online bidding for farm produce.

Trade volume crosses ₹4.82 lakh crore

According to official data, the platform has facilitated trading of 13.22 crore metric tonnes of agricultural produce, with a total trade value of ₹4.82 lakh crore since inception.

As of February 28, 2026, more than 1.80 crore farmers and 2.72 lakh traders have registered on the platform, along with 4,724 farmer producer organisations (FPOs).

The data shows cumulative participation and transaction values across states, indicating the platform’s steady expansion across agricultural markets.

Wider market access for farmers

The platform enables farmers to sell produce beyond local mandis by connecting them to a wider pool of buyers across states, improving competition and price realisation.

By facilitating online bidding and direct transfer of sale proceeds into bank accounts, e-NAM is aimed at reducing intermediaries and increasing transparency in agricultural trade.

State-wise integration of mandis

State-wise data shows significant variation in adoption levels. Tamil Nadu leads with 213 mandis integrated, followed by Maharashtra with 181 mandis, Rajasthan with 173, Uttar Pradesh with 162, and Punjab with 156 mandis.

Other states such as Gujarat (144), Madhya Pradesh (139) and Haryana (114) also have substantial participation in the platform.

Technology integration improving efficiency

The government has introduced advanced technologies to improve efficiency in agricultural trading under e-NAM.

In Rajasthan, for instance, 134 mandis are using AI and machine learning-based systems for quality assaying of agricultural commodities, helping reduce testing time and improve transparency in grading and pricing.

Infrastructure support for mandis

Under the e-NAM scheme, the government provides financial assistance of up to ₹75 lakh per mandi to states for strengthening market infrastructure.

This includes facilities such as quality testing laboratories, electronic weighing systems, grading and packaging units, cleaning facilities and digital infrastructure required for integration with the platform.

Strengthening digital agriculture ecosystem

The expansion of e-NAM reflects broader efforts to digitise India’s agricultural marketing system, improve transparency and enable farmers to access better prices through a unified national market.

The minister said continued integration of mandis, onboarding of farmers and adoption of technology-driven solutions are expected to further strengthen the platform’s role in modernising agricultural trade in India.
