₹146.50 Crore Sanctioned for Four PRASHAD Projects in Telangana

Centre focuses on pilgrimage and heritage tourism infrastructure across key temple towns

New Delhi: The Union government has sanctioned four tourism infrastructure projects in Telangana under the central sector scheme PRASHAD, with a total approved outlay of ₹146.50 crore, according to information placed in Parliament.

The projects have been approved under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) scheme of the Ministry of Tourism, which aims to enhance the spiritual and pilgrimage experience by holistically developing tourism infrastructure at prominent pilgrimage and heritage destinations PRASHAD.

Among the sanctioned projects, development works at the Jogulamba Devi temple in Alampur, approved in 2020–21 at a cost of ₹38.90 crore, have been physically completed, with ₹33.07 crore already released. A major ongoing project relates to the development of pilgrimage and heritage tourism infrastructure at the Ramappa Rudreshwara temple in Mulugu district, sanctioned in 2022–23 with an allocation of ₹62 crore, of which ₹32.73 crore has been released.

Another project approved in 2022–23 involves the development of pilgrimage infrastructure at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, with a sanctioned cost of ₹41.38 crore and ₹8.43 crore released so far. In addition, a project for the development of basic amenities at the Renuka Yellamma temple, sanctioned in 2024–25 with an allocation of ₹4.22 crore, is currently in progress, with no funds released yet PRASHAD.

The PRASHAD scheme is designed to support states in improving tourism-related facilities at important religious destinations, while preserving their spiritual and cultural significance. The projects in Telangana are part of the Centre’s broader efforts to strengthen pilgrimage tourism and improve visitor infrastructure.

The details were shared by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
