New Delhi: India is commemorating 150 years of its National Song Vande Mataram with a series of nationwide initiatives, including mass singing, cultural programmes and military band performances at prominent public venues, aimed at reinforcing national pride and unity.

As part of the celebrations, the Indian Air Force Band performed a special concert at the amphitheatre in Rajiv Chowk on January 21. The 45-minute performance featured 31 musicians and showcased a blend of brass, reed, string and electronic instruments across eleven musical pieces.

Renditions of Vande Mataram and Sindoor—a composition commemorating the actions of the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor—were among the highlights of the evening, drawing an appreciative audience in the heart of New Delhi.

Music has long been regarded as a defining element of India’s cultural heritage and has also played a significant role in its military traditions, fostering unity and inspiring courage. Since its inception in 1944, the Indian Air Force Band has built a diverse repertoire spanning Indian and Western musical traditions, establishing itself as a key cultural ambassador of the armed forces.

Through its performances during the 150-year celebrations of Vande Mataram, the band continues its mandate of promoting patriotism and strengthening the spirit of national unity.
