NIELIT Digital University integrates Saylor University courses to expand digital learning access
NIELIT Digital University has integrated Saylor University’s free online learning resources, expanding access to courses in AI, programming, data science and cybersecurity.
The collaboration was formally launched by S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), at an event in New Delhi on Thursday.
NEW DELHI: The NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform has integrated digital learning resources from Saylor University, USA, in a move aimed at expanding access to flexible, self-paced and globally relevant online education for Indian learners.
The collaboration was formally launched by S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), at an event in New Delhi on Thursday. The initiative will bring Saylor University’s online learning resources onto the NDU platform, creating a common ecosystem combining national and international digital education opportunities.
Courses in AI, data science and cybersecurity
Through the integration, learners will have access to Saylor University’s free, self-paced courses in areas including artificial intelligence, programming, data science, cybersecurity and business management.
Saylor University Provost and Senior Vice President David Shulman said the collaboration would combine NIELIT’s nationwide reach with Saylor’s open-learning resources to expand opportunities for students, working professionals and those seeking to upskill or reskill, including learners in Tier-2, Tier-3 and underserved regions.
Saylor University Vice President Sheila Jagannathan said the institution offers more than 160 free online courses and that the partnership could help democratise access to education, enhance employability and support development of a future-ready workforce.
NDU has 2.8 lakh registered learners
Launched on October 2, 2025, the NIELIT Digital University platform currently has more than 2.80 lakh registered learners and offers over 120 courses covering AI, cybersecurity, data science, cloud computing, semiconductor design, VLSI and other emerging areas.
The platform reaches learners across all 36 States and Union Territories and 761 districts. It supports online and blended learning through AI-enabled tools, Virtual Labs and an advanced Learning Management System.
NDU also offers NSQF-aligned and NCVET-approved programmes, ABC-enabled credit transfer and personalised learning pathways.
Eight new industry-academia partnerships
The event also saw NIELIT exchange MoUs with eight organisations — the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), NASSCOM, Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), Pearson India Education Services, STEMLORE, Dassault Systèmes, ABES Engineering College and Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University.
The partnerships are aimed at expanding industry-aligned skilling, certification, faculty development, internships and digital learning opportunities, largely through the NDU platform.
MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said such global and industry partnerships would strengthen India’s digital education ecosystem and help align skilling and talent development with the changing requirements of the technology-driven economy.
NIELIT Director General MM Tripathi said the collaborations would support continuous upskilling and reskilling while creating greater opportunities for learners to acquire skills relevant to the evolving digital economy.
