Government appeals to citizens to donate computers directly to Gram Panchayats under DAANVEER
The Panchayati Raj Ministry has appealed to citizens, organisations, CSR partners and the Indian diaspora to support Gram Panchayats with computers through the DAANVEER initiative.
Under DAANVEER, citizens can use the Meri Panchayat app to view Gram Panchayats verified by respective state governments as requiring desktop computers.
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has launched DAANVEER, a people-led initiative aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure in Gram Panchayats by enabling citizens and organisations to donate computers directly to eligible Panchayats through the Meri Panchayat app.
The initiative seeks to complement government-supported infrastructure programmes, including the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), by encouraging voluntary public participation in strengthening digital governance and service delivery at the grassroots.
Under DAANVEER, citizens can use the Meri Panchayat app to view Gram Panchayats verified by respective state governments as requiring desktop computers. Donors can select their own Gram Panchayat or another eligible Panchayat seeking digital infrastructure support.
The donation process has been designed as a digital, end-to-end transaction. After selecting a Panchayat, donors can click on the option to donate a computer and are securely redirected to DigiHaat, an ONDC-enabled digital marketplace, without having to undertake a separate registration process.
The selected Panchayat’s delivery address and recipient details are automatically populated, reducing manual data entry. Donors can choose from standardised computer bundles based on prescribed technical specifications, make payments digitally and track the order from confirmation and dispatch through delivery and acknowledgement.
Once the Gram Panchayat acknowledges receipt of the computer, the donor receives a digitally generated certificate of appreciation. The ministry said the process allows every stage of the donation journey, from order placement to delivery and acknowledgement, to be tracked in real time.
The initiative is built around a single-login model integrating the Meri Panchayat app and DigiHaat. The workflow includes state-verified Panchayat selection, standardised computer bundles, automatically populated delivery details, end-to-end tracking and digital donor recognition. The accompanying process diagram on page three of the government release describes the system as simple, secure, transparent and citizen-centric.
The ministry said computers provided through DAANVEER can strengthen a Gram Panchayat’s ability to use digital governance platforms for planning, financial management, record-keeping and citizen service delivery.
The initiative also provides a mechanism for citizens living away from their native villages, including the Indian diaspora, philanthropic organisations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners, to contribute to digital infrastructure in Gram Panchayats.
According to the ministry, 75 donations had already been made under DAANVEER as of August 27, 2026, indicating an initial response to the initiative.
With more states onboarding eligible Gram Panchayats, the ministry expects DAANVEER to evolve into a broader movement for strengthening digitally empowered Panchayats and participatory governance. Donors receive a Certificate of Appreciation upon successful completion of their contribution.
The ministry has invited citizens, philanthropists, organisations, CSR partners and members of the Indian diaspora to participate in the initiative and support digital infrastructure at the grassroots.
