Mathura: Naresh Pal Gangwar, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India, visited Uttar Pradesh Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, on Wednesday, where he emphasized the need for strengthening veterinary infrastructure to support livestock productivity, disease control and rural prosperity.

During his visit, the Secretary reviewed the university’s academic, research, clinical and livestock development activities. He inspected key facilities including the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC), Livestock Farm Complex (LFC), advanced laboratories and instructional centres.

A major highlight of the visit was Gangwar’s tour of India’s pioneering Goat Semen Freezing Facility located within the University’s specialized Goat Unit. He appreciated the institution’s efforts in genetic improvement, conservation and dissemination of superior goat germplasm and discussed the role of reproductive biotechnology in enhancing small ruminant productivity and improving rural livelihoods.

The Secretary also showed keen interest in the University’s advanced breeding and reproductive biotechnology programmes being undertaken in the Goat Unit.

Reaffirming the Government of India’s commitment to environmental sustainability, Gangwar participated in a tree plantation drive under the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The initiative reflected the integration of ecological conservation with agricultural and livestock development efforts.

Later, the Secretary chaired an interactive session at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Auditorium, engaging with faculty members, scientists, researchers and students. Discussions focused on animal health, dairy development, entrepreneurship opportunities and future growth strategies for the livestock sector.

Addressing the gathering, Gangwar highlighted the importance of modern veterinary infrastructure, including advanced clinical facilities, diagnostic laboratories, breeding technologies and digital animal health services. He noted that veterinary institutions play a crucial role in ensuring food and nutritional security while supporting the livelihoods of millions of livestock farmers.

He urged students and researchers to develop practical, field-oriented innovations capable of addressing grassroots challenges and directly benefiting livestock owners across the country.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Abhijit Mitra highlighted DUVASU’s contributions to veterinary education, research, innovation and skill development. He reiterated the university’s commitment to supporting national livestock development priorities through scientific excellence and farmer-centric solutions.

The visit further strengthened collaboration between DUVASU and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, aligning institutional research and innovation with the Government of India’s vision for sustainable livestock development and rural economic growth.
