New Delhi: Telangana chief minister A. Revanth Reddy has appealed to Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to approve Phase-II of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and sought Central government participation in the expansion initiative.

During a meeting held in New Delhi on Wednesday evening, Revanth Reddy discussed Hyderabad Metro Phase-II and Phase-III expansion plans with the Union minister, stressing the need for rapid expansion of the metro network to meet the transportation demands of the fast-growing city.

The chief minister informed the Union minister that the Telangana government has already prepared and submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Metro Phase-II, covering seven corridors spanning 122.9 km with an estimated project cost of ₹38,595 crore.

Revanth Reddy requested the Centre to expedite approval for the project and implement Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Telangana.

The chief minister also informed Khattar that the state government had taken over Metro Phase-I from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited to ensure smoother execution of the Phase-II and Phase-III expansion projects.

Highlighting Hyderabad’s future urban transport requirements, Revanth Reddy urged the Union minister to take up the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport–Bharat Future City corridor under Metro Phase-III. He stated that the DPR for the Phase-III project has also been submitted to the Centre.

Officials who participated in the meeting included Union housing and urban affairs secretary K. Srinivas, special secretary to the chief minister B. Ajith Reddy, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited managing director Sarfaraz Ahmed, Telangana government urban transport advisor NVS Reddy, Telangana Bhavan Officer on Special Duty Sanjay Kumar and secretary for coordination of Central government schemes Advait Kumar Singh.
