Visakhapatnam, December 15: The 10th edition of the Vizag Navy Marathon concluded on a high note on Sunday, drawing more than 17,000 participants, including runners from 17 foreign countries, and reinforcing its position as one of the leading marathon events in the region.

Held amid strong public participation and festive energy, the marathon offered prize money exceeding ₹10 lakh and brought together professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts from across India and abroad.

The full marathon and the prize distribution ceremony were flagged off and presided over by Sanjay Bhalla, flag officer commanding-in-chief, eastern naval command. The half marathon and the Sankalp Run were flagged off by Priya Bhalla, president, NWWA (eastern region). The 10 km and 5 km runs were flagged off by the district collector and the commissioner of police, respectively.

Several senior naval officers, officials from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, veterans, and representatives from partner organisations including State Bank of India and Indian Oil Corporation were present, adding to the scale and significance of the event.

Organisers said meticulous planning and coordination ensured a smooth experience for participants, supported by the district administration, city police and volunteers from the local community. The 2025 edition introduced enhanced features, including improved runner deliverables, special discounts for participants and comprehensive insurance cover for all runners.

The participation of international athletes highlighted the marathon’s growing global appeal and its steady evolution into a major endurance sporting event on India’s east coast.

Congratulating the winners and participants, the flag officer commanding-in-chief, eastern naval command, expressed appreciation for the organisers, district administration, city police and volunteer organisations for their collective efforts in making the event a success.

With its milestone edition completed, the Vizag Navy Marathon is expected to expand further in scale and stature in the coming years, strengthening Visakhapatnam’s profile as a destination for large-scale sporting events.
